This is Mercury’s first 8/9.9hp platform with electronic fuel injection technology. The lineup includes 8 and 9.9hp EFI FourStroke models and a 9.9hp EFI ProKicker. This launch helps satisfy boater demand for EFI technology on low-horsepower engines. We anticipate great sales opportunities in this segment, as our new product offers outstanding benefits compared to some of our competitors’ engines. Competitive Advantage & Key Upgrades Less hassle than carburetors – EFI provides reliable, easy-starting performance in any weather. Battery-free EFI – Our EFI technology is battery-free – a big advantage on small boats or boats used in remote areas. Lightweight – Because we built a dedicated 8/9.9hp EFI platform, rather than detuning a larger engine, we were able to make the new outboards lightweight. They’re lighter than our competitors’ carbureted engines and substantially lighter than a leading competitor’s EFI model that was built on a higher-horsepower powerhead and then detuned. Dedicated trolling model – Mercury ProKicker remains the leading auxiliary outboard dedicated to trolling. The new 9.9hp EFI model retains many of the great fishing-specific features of the ProKicker family. It’s also up to 11 pounds lighter than our prior-generation 9.9hp EFI ProKicker. Exclusive Features Class-leading alternator – Up to 12 amps of charging power help keep the cranking battery topped off on electric-start configurations. Ratcheting tilt – The ratcheting clamp bracket lets the driver manually tilt the engine with just one hand for easy operation.
